This is a short collaborative film between Associate Choreographer, Christina Chan, and Sigma. It chronicles some of the adventures of Sigma in 2018 in a familiar Singapore location. It can be considered an early prototype of Dock 65, a full length live dance and music performance which premiered in December 2019 when Sigma returned for another expedition of the same space. You can watch a short film compilation of Dock 65 during one of the rehearsals here.
Launching on 30 November, this short film will kickstart 12.ance this year.

Reimagining the digital space as a stage, “Survei:ance” was one of Singapore's first online performance, created entirely online through Zoom meetings with the dancers during the Singapore circuit breaker earlier in May this year by Artistic Director, Hong Guofeng. The performance was pre-recorded in a single take and streamed live on Facebook at the end of the circuit breaker lock-down.
Many of you who missed it have been asking where you can watch this performance, and as Singapore gears towards the re-opening of theatres for live performances in phase we feel it is as poignant moment to revisit this work.
In this work, we took conventional ideas of dance composition, lighting specials, framing techniques and movement creation, and explored ways to present them using the online web conferencing platform; to bring the theatre right to the screens of our audience in the comfort of their homes.
While the experience of watching a performance on a screen can never be compared to that of a live show in the theatre, we have hoped to bring some of that magic to the homes of our audience so that they can enjoy dance beyond physical interactions and boundaries.

FACEBOOK VIDEO POST
Past memories linger, resurface, distort and blur, reconstructing themselves into a version of reality that we remember. This film is an introspective look at the different states one goes through when encountering loss, taking the viewer on a site-specific tour of an imagined house. Viewers are invited to experience a 300-degree perspective as they follow the dancers through the tour in a 1-take performance.
ABOUT THE PROCESS
Hypnagogia is the second collaboration between Guofeng and Redwan, after a successful site-
specific work, Dock 65 in 2019. This work is prompted by a reflection of the impact of this pandemic, especially on the loss of familiarity many faced. Set in a vacant colonial bungalow, the film attempts to recreate the experience of the audience being in the space watching a site-specific performance through the use of a 360 camera (with a 300-degree viewing angle for visuals) and incorporating 360 sound as well.
Directed by Hong Guofeng
Choreographed by Hong Guofeng and dancers
Music & sound by Redwan Hamzah
Video & editing by Daniel Bob
