Guofeng Hong is currently the artistic director of Sigma Contemporary Dance and SMU INDANCITY. His full-length works for Sigma have been described as “compelling”, “slick”, “immersive” and “clever” by The Straits Times and Arts Equator. He also makes short works that have been performed at local arts festival such as M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival and SMU Arts Festival, as well as to international dance festivals such as Sibu International Dance Festival, Dance Circus and Blossom Arts Festival. He creates works based on the ongoing development of his movement and choreographic practices. In 2019, he created a work with long-time collaborator Chiok Woon, which has been showcased in M1 Contact Contemporary Dance Festival and invited to perform in Hong Kong Dance Exchange and Macau CDE Springboard. He is constantly exploring different ways of presenting contemporary dance to the audience, such as Dock 65, a full length piece using Esplanade Park as an outdoor theatre, Survei:ance, a Zoom performance, and Hypnagogia, a 360 site specific performance with 360 sound. As he continues to refine his practice, he hopes to share his findings with people curious about art and the moving body.

Chua Chiok Woon

Chiok is a founding member and dance artist of Sigma Contemporary Dance. She has performed and collaborated in works by Hong Guofeng, Christina Chan, Jessica Christina (Indonesia), Marcus Foo, Benedict Soh, and Yeri Anarika (Berlin/ Mexico). Her co-creation has been performed at M1 Offstage 2018, M1 Open Stage 2019, as well as CDE Springboard in Macau and Hong Kong Dance Exchange in 2020. She has also created short works for universities and tertiary institutions. Aside from dancing and creating, she shares her practice and dance knowledge with children, youths and adults as a freelance ballet and contemporary dance educator.

Jieying

Jieying started her training as an artistic gymnast and a chinese dancer. She moved on to train in contemporary dance and ballet in School of the Arts, Singapore. In 2016, she received the National Arts Council Scholarship (Undergraduate) to study overseas at London Contemporary Dance School. Upon graduating, Jieying worked for projects with James Cousins Company and Matsena Productions in the UK. Jieying joined The Human Expression Dance Company as a full time professional dancer from 2019-2022. She also teaches, choreographs and facilitates dance workshops and dance related talks for arts groups and organisations in Singapore. Her recent interest lies in researching how different aspects of dancing, both physically and mentally, can bring about more body awareness and even more happiness to the rest of the community.

Ke Xin

Dance has been an integral part of Ke Xin’s life since young. Formally trained in Chinese Dance under Ms Zou Yi, she went on to Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts and graduated with a Diploma in Dance. Under NAFA, she had the opportunity to perform and work with various choreographers like, Ezekiel Olivera, Charlotte Boye-Christensen, Richard Chappell and Ming Poon. Ke Xin also had the chance to work with Albert Tiong for a piece commissioned by Esplanade for the Hua Yi festival 2019 and Li Rui Min and Zheng Long for a contemporary Chinese dance piece performed in Macau for the International Youth Dance Festival 2019. She went on to join Singapore Chinese Dance Theatre as a Dance Artiste and also co-choreographed for Emergence 2021. Ke Xin is interested in the possibilities with the human body and the power it has to influence and motivate others.

Christina Chan

Born in Singapore, Christina studied at The Boston Conservatory was awarded the prestigious Ar-thur B. Whitney Medal for highest scholastic achievement after previously training at The New Zealand School of Dance. Her work in dance has taken her around the world, to Europe, Australia, New Zealand, Israel, Ko-rea, the UK and Africa; working with artists including Noa Zuk, Stephanie Lake, Sita Ostheimer, Byron Perry, Liu Yen Cheng, Matej Kejzar, Stephanie Batten Bland, Shahar Binyamini, Wallie Wolfgruber, Gabrielle Nankivell, Victor Fung, Lewis Major, Aymeric Bichon and more. At home, Christina has been working with Singapore Ballet/Singapore Dance Theatre, since 2011, creating several repertory works for the company, most recently for Dans Fest and Sifa 2021. She was previously a full-time artist and the rehearsal director at Frontier Danceland where she created 10 repertory works. She has also created work for NAFA, Lasalle and Sigma Contemporary Dance, where she is currently a resident choreographer.

Germaine Cheng

A wordsmith and movement magpie, Germaine received her initial training in classical ballet at Singapore Ballet Academy before pursuing a BA(Hons) degree at the Rambert School of Ballet and Contemporary Dance in London. Since graduating in 2012, she has performed with local dance company RAW Moves and her choreography has been showcased at Dance Nucleus’ HATCH and M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival. Germaine has also created interactive installations for Pop-up Noise: Soul Searching as well as Arts in Your Neighbourhood. She is currently an artist with Sigma Contemporary Dance. Germaine was on the Dance Faculty at School of the Arts, Singapore from 2014 to 2020, and is an adjunct lecturer at Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts. In addition, Germaine is a freelance dance writer, who received commissions to research, write and edit commemorative publications for Singapore Dance Theatre and T.H.E Dance Company.

Li Yong Wei began his dance training in ballet, followed by contemporary dance, in Singapore, which led him to further his studies of movement in Arizona State University (ASU). Since graduating from ASU in 2010 with an Outstanding Graduate Student Creative Work Award and a Distinguished Teacher Award, he has continued his practice and sharing of dance/movement in diverse environments. Yong Wei has also facilitated dance/movement workshops at King’s Academy, Jordan (2009), Arizona Dance Education Organization, Phoenix, Arizona (2010), America College Dance Festival, Tempe, Arizona (2010), International Dance Festival in Ilan, Taiwan (2011), Contact Festival, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2012, 2013), Mission Improvable Festival, Buffalo, New York (2012), Beijing Dance Academy (2015), and Toronto (2016). In Singapore, Yeong also conducts dance/movement workshops at O’Joy Care Center (part of the Health Oriented Ageing programme), Memories Café (Project by Alzheimer’s Disease Association), Greentree Montessori (a Creative Movement Class) and Nanyang Academy Of Fine Arts (Teaching Improvisation and Contact Improvisation). Yong Wei occasionally organizes and facilitates intensive workshops to deepen his research and study of dance/movement.

Sammantha Yue

"My art is living in itself — the starting point of my practice often stems from curiosity and personal experiences. I am interested in the roles the body can play and evolve through different grounds of practices." Sammantha is an artist, performer as well as a certified yoga instructor. She attained a Diploma in Dance (2014) and graduated with a BA First Class Honors in Dance (2016) from LASALLE College of the Arts. From 2016 to 2023, Samm was a full time artist with Frontier Danceland where she worked and collaborated with local and international choreographers including artistic director Low Mei Yoke, Chiew Pei Shan, Zhuo Zihao (Singapore), Gabrielle Nankivell and Luke Smiles (Australia), Tung I-Fen (Taiwan), Victor Ma Choi-Wo (Hong Kong), Shahar Biniamini (Israel), Richard Chappell and Deborah Nightingale (United Kingdom), Annie Vigier and Franck Apertet, Edouard Hue and Thomas Lebrun (France), Sita Ostheimer (Germany), Sascia Pellegrini and Marioenrico D’ Angelo (Italy).
