SOMATIC PRACTICES & IMPROVISATION

To move or to dance well, is to first better understand the instrument, which is our body. In this 6 sessions, we will explore the relations of body and movement through the studies of sensations. Simple anatomy and some characteristics of the bones and muscles structures will be introduced. Attention to the internal organs and its breathe will be explored. Improvisation will be engaged to experience these sensations through movement and to further the understand individual’s body uniqueness.
This class is open to dancers all levels of dance training.

CONTEMPORARY INTRODUCTORY COURSE

This class is suitable for those who are relatively new to dance and wish to start dancing. Each term consists of 8 sessions. In these 8 sessions, you will be introduced to dance anatomy and the understanding of your spine. You will be learning about your relationship with gravity as well as explore simple floor work and basic dance coordinations.
Designed to continue to introduce contemporary dance to beginners through a series of simple progressive exercises, expect to gain heightened sensory awareness and better coordination, develop a more active body for a healthier body and mind, attain a little foundation in dance, as well as learn to find and enjoy the dance within your body.

This is an 8-week course suitable for those who are new to dance and wish to learn some basics of ballet. In this course you will be introduced to the principles of classical ballet such as body alignment, weight placement, turn out, use of arms and learn basic ballet exercises and coordinations.
Designed to introduce ballet to beginners, this course will equip you with fundamentals allowing you to gain body awareness, sensitivity, strength and poise through progressive barre and centre work consisting of simple port de bras, centre practice, adage, petit allegro and grand allegro.

As courses are designed to be progressive in nature, full attendance of all 8 classes is highly recommended. You are encouraged to continue beyond the course with our intro level weekly classes to build on what you have learnt.
