ABOUT INTERSECTIONS LAB
For its inaugural edition, Wearable Bodies, we invite artists to investigate garments and materials as active creative forces—shaping movement, perception, and performance. Looking at fashion not as decoration or costume, but as a collaborator that can generate new physical vocabularies, relationships, and ways of experiencing the body. This lab encourages collective creation, and provides an intensive space for experimentation, exchange, and risk-taking.
Working in interdisciplinary groups, participants will develop ideas together from the very beginning, allowing different artistic practices and perspectives to influence one another and shape the work as it develops.
We are seeking artists who are at a critical point in their practice— ready to push beyond familiar forms and step into ambitious, collaborative creation.
LAB STRUCTURE
Following the application process, shortlisted applicants will be invited for an interview. These conversations will help the organisers form interdisciplinary groups based on artistic compatibility, collaborative potential, and availability.
Each group will comprise:
-
1 Dance / Movement Artist
-
1 Sound / Music Artist
-
1 Fashion / Wearable Artist*
*Wearable artists may include practitioners working in fashion, costume, textiles, material-based practices, and other body-oriented forms.
Together, you will explore the theme of Wearable Bodies through shared inquiry, experimentation, and making.
WHAT YOU WILL RECEIVE
Selected artists will work in interdisciplinary groups and receive:
-
A $300 production and materials allowance per group to support the development of your work.
-
12 hours of dedicated studio time at Sigma Collective Space during the Lab period, culminating in a public presentation on 6 December 2026 (refer to "Important Dates" above).
-
Mentorship and feedback from invited industry practitioners and professionals throughout the Lab (refer to "Mentors" above).
-
Opportunities to connect with curators, artistic directors, producers, presenters, and artistic peers.
-
Professional documentation of your work for future portfolios and archival purposes.
-
A supportive environment for interdisciplinary research, experimentation, and creative exchange.
The Lab culminates in a 15-minute public presentation, in a format determined by each group, followed by a 15-minute conversation with audiences, mentors, and invited industry guests. The showcase is open to the public and attended by curators, producers, presenters, and fellow artists, creating opportunities for dialogue, reflection, and future collaborations.
WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR
We invite applications from artists with an established and evolving practice who are interested in working across disciplines. The Intersections Lab is for practitioners who are curious about collaborative processes, open to experimentation, and eager to explore new relationships between movement, sound, and wearable forms.
We are looking for artists who embrace dialogue, exchange, and collective making, and who are excited by the possibility of developing ideas that could not emerge through a single discipline alone.
We welcome applications from practitioners working in, or across, disciplines including (but not limited to):
-
Dance and choreography
-
Theatre and performance-making
-
Music, sound, and voice
-
Fashion, costume, textiles, and wearable design
-
Material-based and object-based practices
-
Interdisciplinary and hybrid artistic practices
ELIGIBILITY
Applicants must:
-
Be in Singapore and commit to full participation across the lab duration
-
Have at least 2–3 years of active artistic practice
-
Be open to collaboration and group-based creation
