JUDGE Intersections Exchange

Guofeng Hong is an independent artist and Artistic Director of Sigma Contemporary Dance and SMU Indancity. Since Sigma’s inception, he has shaped its distinct identity within Singapore’s dance landscape through a choreographic approach that extends beyond conventional stages. His artistic practice centres on improvisation, experimentation, and the accumulation of structure over time, often engaging the body as a site of negotiation, memory, and presence. Working across stage, site-specific, and digital contexts, he explores how movement can emerge through constraint, persistence, and subtle shifts in attention, creating works that are immersive, durational, and attentive to the relationships between performers, space, and audience.

MENTOR Intersections LAB

Lidya Chrisfens is a fashion educator, designer, and researcher with two decades of industry and academic experience. She teaches fashion making at LASALLE College of the Arts, Singapore, with a focus on creative pattern cutting, digital fashion, and sustainable design practices. Her pedagogical approach is grounded in critical making and experiential learning, encouraging students to work intuitively through the body, material, and space. With a Distinction in a Master’s in Art Pedagogy and Practice, Lidya continually explores new ways of teaching that connect process, emotion, and concept. Lidya’s research practice operates at the intersection of fashion, performance, and philosophy. Drawing from phenomenology, particularly notions of Atmospheric Space, Conceptual Space, and the embodied mind, her work explores how memory, emotion, proprioception, and material sensibility shape the act of making. She engages transdisciplinary approaches that merge fashion with performing arts, using these as a lens to understand the designer’s internal landscape. Her signature methodology, Blind-Draping, was developed in 2020 and has since gained international recognition for its ability to reframe how design can emerge through tactile perception rather than visual intent.

She holds a Diploma in Dance and a BA (First Class Honours) in Dance from LASALLE College of the Arts. From 2016 to 2023, Sammantha was a full-time artist with Frontier Danceland, where she performed and toured internationally across Taiwan, France, Belgium, Germany, and Portugal. She collaborated with a wide range of local and international choreographers and took on creative, teaching, and leadership roles within the company’s outreach and development programmes. As a freelance artist, Sammantha continues to perform, create, and teach. Her recent performance work includes performing in a duet at the FMK Dance Festival in Laos in 2025. Her practice spans performance, choreography, and dance education. Her practice begins from within — an ongoing inquiry into the body as both subject and site. Rooted in curiosity and shaped by lived experience, her work explores how the body inhabits, adapts, and transforms across different contexts of practice. She is drawn to the shifting roles the body can assume — as structure, sensation, and memory — and how these states evolve through time, space, and intention. Movement, for Sammantha, is not fixed but continuously becoming; a negotiation between precision and release, control and listening. Her practice is shaped by sustained physical inquiry and an interest in presence, sensation, and embodiment. As a movement educator, she draws from contemporary and ballet practices, alongside her training in yoga. Her teaching integrates breath, alignment, attention, and physical awareness, inviting participants to explore movement with curiosity while developing sensitivity, adaptability, and presence in the body.
