Sigma is an independent local dance collective comprising a team of semi-professional dancers. Since its inception in 2011, Sigma has created well-received full-length works, each pushing the boundaries of dance, performance, and audience engagement. Known for creating relevant and visually compelling works that engage the audience and allow the audience to immerse in the visceral experience of the performance, we aim to generate conversations, and ultimately form a deeper connection between the audience and the performers on stage.

Led by Artistic Director Hong Guofeng, we created our first full-length work in 2012Our works include: T|hitherto in 2012, A Double Bill: Light/Shadows et Optical Delusion in 2014, Dialogue 2.0  (a collaboration with Indonesian artist Jessica Christina) in 2016, Insatiable in 2017, Dock 65, an outdoor performance (a collaboration with local independent artist Christina Chan and musician/composer Redwan Hamzah) in 2019, and most recently, Survei:ance, Singapore's first online performance created during the Circuit Breaker, and a 360 site-specific online performance at the end of Phase 2.

We have also created works for local arts festivals and dance events such as M1 Contact Festival, Verve Arts Festival, Esplanade's Upstage! Dance Showcase, as well as been invited to perform our works at dance festivals in South East Asia, such as International Dance Circus and Blossom Arts Festival, both in Malaysia, as well as Hong Kong Dance Exchange and CDE Springboard in Macau.

We actively create platforms for our members and the public to explore and pursue contemporary dance as we work with local and overseas industry veterans to continue to hone our movement techniques and creative process, as well as hold regular workshops and classes of various levels for the public.

A strong believer in the benefits of movement and art, Sigma hopes to encourage the growth and support of Singapore’s contemporary dance scene through our works and activities.

Many of us get caught up in the daily grind, and SIGMA hopes to remind you to always find time to do what you love.

Sigma Associates

We started out never wanting to stop dancing, then we wanted to create works for an audience, then we wanted to spread contemporary dance to people who did not know what it was and let them experience the pleasure of dancing.

We hope what we have created can be a platform for more people who are like us, who are committed to pursuing this dance form and wanting to grow as dancers and artists, with a team of like-minded people alongside school or work.
