Class Title

Reacquaint with your movement possibilities and restrictions of our own body by surrendering to the lead and guidance of others. This allows us to move passively and concentrate on breathing and creating spaces inside our body, and the connectedness between bones. As movements emerge as a result of external influences, we also inquire into the relationship between ourself and others. This workshop has moments of physical contact between participants. The class will be conducted in Mandarin.

Suitable for Beginner-Intermediate dancers who have some prior dance experience but who are not yet fully proficient/ confident. This level bridges the gap between beginners and intermediates, focusing on building a strong foundation while introducing more challenging steps and combinations.

Repertoire

by Christina Chan

Parkour is a movement discipline centered around overcoming physical and mental obstacles, by adapting to and navigating around our environment using only the human body. This philosophy affords multiple outcomes: these include finding freedom of expression, creating flow in movement, and learning to manage our relationship with danger, risk and fear. In this workshop, we will be introduced to Parkour from a curious and playful perspective to discover and explore the ‘Parkour Mindset’. We will learn fundamental Parkour movements such as jumping, landing, rolling/breakfall, vaulting, climbing and descending. In a progressive manner, we will also address attributes like skill-specific coordination, force absorption and power generation. By the end of the workshop, we hope to strengthen movement literacy and confidence, which can translate across multiple disciplines.

Suitable for All Levels. Prior dance background is not required. This workshop will be at an introductory level, with room to scale up for up to intermediate level general movement practitioners.
